Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead Pakistan for the first time in T20 series against New Zealand in Jan 12, 2024.

Left arm fast appointed as new T20 captain for Pakistan after Babar stepped down from captaincy from all formats.  Shan Masood named as the test captain and as there no scheduled near for ODIs so no one named for the ODI captain yet.

After resignation PCB offered Babar to continue as the test captain of the team. But Baber step down after the consultation with his family and PCB stands behind his decision and continue to support him as a player to show PCB respects his decision. Zaka Ashraf said, Babar is the world class player Pakistan ever produce. He is the best batter of Pakistan as he proves with his performances for Pakistan. We will support him; he is our asset.

Career:

Shaheen Afridi who made his t20 debut in 2018 is known as most lethal and attacking fast bowler in the world. His reverse swing to right handed batsman is the specialty. And he is also more dangerous with new ball he proves as creating the record of most dismissals in the opening over of the T20 match. The left arm fast bowler is also the captain of Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Qalandars won both trophies under his leadership. The Youngster becomes the first captain to defends the title for the first time in the history of PSL.

Pakistan travel to New Zealand for the 5 T20s series after the tests from Australia. That is first series in his leadership. This is very important series for him before the lead up the World cup this year which take place in USA and West indies.

Mohammad Hafeez appointed Team Director:

The PCB also announced, later after the announcement of the captains of all formats they announced Mohammad Hafeez as the director of the team. Mickey Arthur had occupied that role. He is not remove from the role. He is not moving with the team. That’s why unexperienced as the coach and director. Hafeez lead this coaching role in Australia. Mohammad Hafeez said, I am honored and exited to take this role of director of men’s team of Pakistan. I would like to thank PCB for trusting my abilities and giving me this challenging role.
